E Co. bites | Series 4

Welcome to our 4th series of E Co. bites! We share short and easily digestible climate finance explainers, technical lessons, and more about us, our work, and how you can support our mission.

In this E Co. bite, our Head of HR, Vedrana, explains how empathy is a vital part of our way of thinking and working. She shares how empathy at E Co. is not just about emotions but about deeply understanding the “why” behind our projects and connecting with the many different roles that shape our climate finance and sustainable development work.

TRANSCRIPT

Empathetic has multiple meanings at E Co. and is a vital component in our way of thinking.

From thinking deeply about the why behind a project, to empathising with the different roles needed to create our climate finance and sustainable development ecosystem.

For me in my role at E Co. as leading HR, it’s about understanding and sharing the feelings of others, stepping into their shoes to see the world from their perspective. By fostering empathy, we cultivate active listening, compassion, and a supportive environment where everyone feels heard and valued.

Of course, we’re all human, and it’s not always easy to be perfectly empathetic. Our own beliefs and needs can sometimes create barriers. We might misinterpret a colleague’s intentions, feeling they’re not listening or that they are dismissing our ideas. Or, we might feel that someone whose input or feedback we depend on, is overlooking our needs. But by understanding the value of empathy, we can learn to pause. We can consider the bigger picture, connect with the needs and feelings of those around us, and work towards and find solutions that work for us, our team, the assignment stakeholders, the community (the world sustainably transformed…)

Ultimately, it is a value which contributes enormously to building a more sustainable and collaborative world.
