Our Senior Analyst, Remus, explores what it really means to be impactful in climate and development work. Impact isn’t just about short-term results—it’s about creating lasting change that transforms systems, markets, and communities.
But how do we achieve that? Remus shares key questions we ask throughout our projects to ensure we’re not just ticking boxes but driving real, systemic transformation. Watch the video below to hear his insights 👇
TRANSCRIPT
This is probably the most important value to development professionals. We all want to know if our work is making a difference where it matters most.
I think being impactful means driving lasting change across everything we do – whether it’s designing projects and programmes, shaping climate policies, conducting market studies, or evaluating ongoing or completed initiatives.
Each assignment I work on is an opportunity to help create both immediate benefits and lasting change, and throughout the assignment it’s important to ask ourselves questions like: will this policy framework catalyse market transformation? Can these adaptation solutions be replicated and upscaled? Are we removing barriers to unlocking private sector investment? How do we empower vulnerable and marginalised people?
Every completed assignment teaches us valuable lessons about what drives lasting change, and how to go about doing it. We always document these insights through our internal retrospectives to strengthen future work.
To me, being impactful ultimately means maximising every engagement to create ripple effects that transform systems, markets, and behaviours for a more sustainable and resilient future.
