Small Island Developing States (SIDS) face incredibly unique challenges as a result of climate change. Their demographics, geographies, vulnerabilities, ecosystems, and locations leave them with very specific needs when implementing mitigation or adaptation strategies. They look to organisations such as the Green Climate Fund (GCF) to provide them with the finance and support that will grant them improved climate resilience to future shocks.

What are the most pressing climate challenges for SIDS? How can the GCF provide more SIDS-specific support? Are the challenges faced by SIDS universal to these states or are the experiences of individual SIDS distinct? What differentiates SIDS from other contexts and how does this impact the design process? In this survey, we want to understand the unique circumstances that affect SIDS and how these are or are not being addressed through GCF finance and the project modality.

We greatly appreciate your feedback, which will help us understand the unique climate challenges faced by SIDS and evaluate how designing for SIDS differentiates from projects for other stakeholders. With this in mind, we will also consider the effectiveness of GCF-funded projects, and identify opportunities to improve the design process to ensure GCF projects better serve the needs of SIDS.

Please note: this research is being conducted by the team at E Co. We are conducting this research independently and are not affiliated with the Green Climate Fund, the GCF Secretariat, or other donors. E Co. is not approaching survey participants for sales purposes.
