A Q&A with Federico Riet Sapriza

In a nutshell, tell us about yourself.

I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, but my family is from Uruguay. I am a passionate marine biologist and GIS expert with over 20 years of experience in environmental protection, marine conservation, and marine science. My love for exploration and adventure has taken me to incredible places like the Amazon rainforest, the Chocó region of Colombia, the Antarctic Peninsula, and the remote subantarctic islands of New Zealand. I hold a PhD from Massey University (New Zealand) and a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology from James Cook University (Australia). I also completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia.

Over the years, I’ve contributed to the scientific community by publishing book chapters, reports, and peer-reviewed articles in international journals. Since 2012, I’ve been teaching GIS skills and have become a GIS instructor, offering training on GIS for conservation and management across Latin America. Throughout my journey as a marine biologist, I have witnessed firsthand the impacts on the marine environment due to climate change. I’m excited to be working at E Co., contributing to a team that’s making a difference toward a more sustainable world and helping mitigate the impacts of climate change.
